In August 2005 Barry and Ruth Cooper were invited to a birthday party in a home in Kirkby. As they were driving along County Road, both felt God speak to them about starting a church in the town. Over the next few months they prayed and explored a number of possibilities including starting a childcare facility in a primary school in Kirkby.
In September 2006 Barry and Ruth moved from Wallasey to Kirkby and started Rainbow Childcare in Millbrook School, Kirkby Row. At the end of October they started meeting as a group, midweek in their home. These meetings continue and have a variety of formats from looking at the Bible together, to playing games and doing other activities, to praying for each other. In December 2007 Jubilee Church, Kirkby met for the first time in public on a Sunday afternoon in Millbrook School for a Christmas Celebration. This was repeated the following year. As from January 2009 these meetings were held on the third Sunday in each month, again in Millbrook School. The meetings are deliberately informal with everyone sitting around small tables. It is hoped that they are relevant and contain something that will be helpful for everyone, irrespective of whether they are used to attending church.
